August 16: Incoming Freshmen Computer Skills Test (optional).

August 20: Freshmen first day of school.

August 21: First day of school for all students.

September 2: Labor Day/No School

September 5: Back to School Night (7:00 p.m.) – An evening to welcome parents, introduce them to the school and the faculty, and acquaint them with their child’s schedule. (For parents only.)

FRESHMEN CHALLENGE: The first day of school for freshmen will be Tuesday, August 20. Orientation will be from 7:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Enter the building through the north door and meet in the Commons. You will receive your textbooks and Chromebook that day. A snack and lunch will be provided.

FRESHMEN SCHEDULES: Freshmen schedules will be mailed when classes have been determined. They will also be distributed at Freshmen Orientation.

REQUIRED FRESHMEN DOCUMENTS: All freshmen are required by Indiana law to submit an immunization record and birth certificate before school starts.

THE FIRST DAY: The first day of school for all other students (and the second day for freshmen) is Wednesday, August 21. The day will be a full day, beginning at 7:45 a.m. and ending at 2:50 p.m.

HOMEROOM AND LOCKERS: Homeroom and locker assignments for all students will be available in mid-August. These can be viewed on your schedule on RenWeb.

SCHEDULES: Student schedules were distributed in May. To access a schedule, go to ParentsWeb > Student Information > Schedules. You will only be able to view first semester schedule. If you have problems accessing your ParentsWeb account, contact the main office for assistance. If you have any scheduling problems, you should contact your counselor by email. Families with last names A-K contact Mrs. Benes (mbenes@illianaweb.org); and last names L-Z contact Mr. Zandstra (nzandstra@illianaweb.org). Students will also receive copies of their schedules when they pick up their textbooks.

TEXTBOOKS: Textbooks will be loaned to students free of charge again this year. Textbooks will be distributed (to sophomores, juniors, and seniors) on Tuesday, August 13, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Community Hall/Commons area.

CHROMEBOOKS: All students will receive a Chromebook this year. Freshmen will be given their Chromebooks at Orientation. Chromebooks will be distributed to all other students during homeroom. A $90.00 technology fee will be assessed for all students. Additional fees will be assessed if Chromebooks are damaged or lost.

FALL 2019 WASHINGTON D.C. SENIOR CLASS TRIP (October 22 – 26): A tentative itinerary was handed out to the Class of 2020 on May 29. The fee of $635 is due September 12, and should be submitted to their homeroom teachers with the completed trip registration forms.

FALL PLAY: The Drama Department will present Clue, a madcap comedy based on the Parker Brothers Board Game. The oddball characters will keep you laughing as the audience tries to guess “whodunit”. Audition materials will be available on the school website in the beginning of August. Auditions will be August 22 and 23 after school. Any questions, email Mr. DeVries at jdevries@illianaweb.org.

GUIDANCE OFFICE UPDATES:

• ACT: Seniors who wish to take (or retake) the ACT on Saturday, September 14, should register by Friday, August 16. Note: This September testing will not be held at Illiana. You must register online at www.actstudent.org. Our school code is 154444. This code should be used for both SAT and ACT testing registration to ensure your scores are sent to Illiana.

• COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID NIGHT/FAFSA INFORMATION: Parents of juniors and seniors are invited to the College Financial Aid Night on September 30, at 7:00 p.m., in the Commons. This is an important seminar to attend as you begin the college and financial aid application. Please make this a priority.

COMPUTER SKILLS TEST: Illiana offers an optional Computer Skills Test for incoming freshmen. This test could allow your student to test out of Illiana’s Computer Skills class (es). The second test-out date is August 16, at 8:00 a.m. Please contact the school office at 219-558-7066 if you would like to sign your child up for the test.

PARKING FOR 2019-2020: All student drivers must have a parking tag displayed in their car. The $20 fee will be billed with tuition. Parking forms are available on our website. If you have questions, please contact Mr. Turkstra (ATurkstra@illianaweb.org). Parking tags will be available before school begins.

BUS NEWS: Transportation is again being provided from South Holland, Lansing and Highland. Please be aware that the $200 fee applies to any portion of the year and will not be prorated. If you intend to use the bus at all, please sign up for it so we can plan You may register online. Fee: $200/year. TUITION: The tuition rate for 2019-2020 is $10,130. The $100 enrollment fee billed in March reduces your billed total to $10,030. The first payment of $912, for each student, is due by August 15. Payments for August – May will be $912 per month. The June 2020 payment will be $910. The Supporting Church gratitude grant of $620 will be applied on the June 2020 statement.

Payment Options:

EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer) – You are encouraged to participate in this automatic payment plan using electronic fund transfer. Payments are automatically taken from the account of your choice. A new form must be completed every year. The August payment must be made by cash or check. Auto payments begin in September.

RenWeb (via ParentsWeb) – Click on the “Pay Now” button in the billing tab. Payments processed through your checking account are fee-free, but payments processed via credit card will be charged a convenience fee.

In Person – Cash, Check, Money Order and/or Credit Card (MasterCard and Discover only, with a 3.75% convenience fee) are accepted in the office.

Snail Mail – Check and Money Order payments can be mailed to the school office.

Bill Pay through your bank – These payments are initiated by you.

FEES: Some additional fees may be added to your tuition, such as:

Spire – (Yearbooks): Orders are taken in October.

  • Instrument rental
  • Textbook loss or damage
  • Lost or late uniforms
  • Parking registration
  • Bus registration
  • Chromebook damage repairs
  • Athletic trainer fee
  • Athletic team fee

P.I.E. (Parents Involved in Education) Fee – each Illiana family is assessed a “P.I.E. fee” of $200, which is billed in December. When parents volunteer, they receive a credit of $200 on their tuition statement to offset this fee.
P.I.E. (PARENTS INVOLVED IN EDUCATION): A $200 P.I.E. fee will be billed on your December tuition statement. Those who have worked off their P.I.E. hours the months prior, will receive their P.I.E. credit at that time. After December, P.I.E. credits will be applied on a monthly basis.

MILK AND JUICE: Milk (2% or chocolate) and orange juice are available every day at lunchtime.

P.I.E. Information and the opportunity to sign up for volunteer positions will be available in August.

SCRIP The next SCRIP order will go out on July 15 at 8:00 am. Please have all orders submitted online by 8:00 am. Pick up will be after 12:00 p.m. on July 18. We now carry Rob’s Meat Chop & Deli in $25 increments at an 8% credit.

Are you interested in holding an event for a family or church function? Illiana offers a delicious homemade meal available all year long. Family-style dinner plates begin at $16 per person. For more details, contact our dinner coordinator Terri Schaaf at schaafone@att.net or 708-259-0749.

Detailed information about P.I.E. volunteer sign-up and the lunch program will be emailed in August.

ATHLETIC REGISTRATION: Information regarding the new Athletic Registration system will be emailed at a later date. All athletes must be registered BEFORE tryouts begin. If you have questions, contact Ashley Kamstra at akamstra@illianaweb.org.

PHYSICALS: All students planning to participate in any sport during the 2019-2020 school year must turn in a current physical form before tryouts for that particular team begin. Physicals are required every year. Forms are available in the office or through the link on our website. You may mail or turn forms in to the main office.

TRAINER FEES: The Athletic Department will be enlisting the services of a professional sports trainer. The trainer will be available at many of the home events and after school on practice days to provide athletes with prompt treatment as well as preventative measures such as taping, bracing, etc. Every student who participates in athletics at Illiana will be assessed a fee of $50.00 per sport to help defray the expense of this program. This fee will be added to your tuition statement.

FALL SPORTS 2019- 2020 TRYOUTS

All tryouts will be held at the Illiana’s athletic facilities.

Both boys and girls soccer tryouts will be August 5, 6, and 7 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Girls volleyball tryouts will be August 5, 6, and 7. Freshmen – 3:00 – 5:00 pm. Sophomores – Seniors 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Boys Tennis Tryouts will be August 5, 6, and 7 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
