FEBRUARY 2021

CALENDAR NOTES: 

• There will be no school on February 12, due to the Faculty In-Service Day, or on February 15 for Presidents’ Day.
• There will be early dismissal on Thursday, February 20.
• Spring Break is March 29 – April 2.
• The annual Illiana Christian High School Association Meeting will be held on Monday, April 19.
• VIKING ACADEMY July 12 -30: Watch our website for details on all the exciting summer camps offered this year! Registration opens March 1.

FEBRUAY CONCERTS:

BAND CONCERTS:  All the bands will be performing in person, with limited audience attendance, on February 18 at 7:30 p.m.  This includes the Wind Ensemble, the Viking Jazz Band, and the Symphonic Band.

CHOIR & ORCHESTRA CONCERT:   The Illiana Orchestra, along with the Choirs, and Chamber Singers will present an in person concert on February 11 at 7:30 p.m.

SPRING MUSICAL – March 4, 5, & 6:   Illiana is optimistically planning for a spring musical in March.  Unpack your adjectives, sing along with the preamble, and get ready for those interjections as we perform Schoolhouse Rock Live!  Specific details about format and tickets pending.  Stay tuned!

ATTENDANCE & ABSENCE REMINDERS:  Students who will be late to school (after 8:30 a.m.) need to be called in by a parent to report this.  Absences should be called in by a parent also.  If you plan to take your student out of school for an extended period of time, for a vacation, medical procedure, etc. please have them pick up the green Planned Absence form in the display across from the office.  This should be completed and turned in before the absence.

ADMISSIONS & ENROLLMENT NEWS:

ATTENTION PARENTS OF EIGHTH GRADERS:

High School is just around the corner for your soon-to-be-graduating student! Illiana is now accepting online applications for the 2021-22 academic year. Current Illiana families can access the application in their Family Portal under Apply/Enroll. New families should visit the Admissions page on the Illiana website.  Please pass this information on to friends and family.

SCHEDULE A TOUR TO PREVIEW ILLIANA: Parents of middle schoolers are encouraged to take a personal tour of Illiana with their student, in place of our twice-yearly Preview Illiana open house event, which will not be held in March due to Covid restrictions. Tours can be scheduled almost anytime.

RE-ENROLLMENT:  Re-enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year will be automatic again this year. Principal Peter Boonstra sent a letter to all families in January regarding this.

COUNSELING OFFICE

ACT TEST PREP:

• The ACT test will be offered at Illiana on Saturday, April 17, 2021.  Detailed information regarding the ACT test was sent to parents/guardians of all juniors and is available on the Illiana website.
• TO REGISTER FOR THE ACT TEST GO TO:  act.org.   The deadline to register for the April test is March 12, 2021.
• COACHING: Illiana offers four nights of coaching from 7 – 9 p.m. on March 18, 23, 25, and April 6.  Students may sign up in the office, and the cost is $50.  Payment (check or cash) is to be made when students sign up. We are not able to add this charge to your tuition.
• If you have any questions regarding the ACT test or coaching for the test, contact your student’s counselor.  Contact Mrs. Melanie Benes for students whose last names begin with A – K (mbenes@illianaweb.org) or Mr. Neil Zandstra for students whose last names begin with L – Z (nzandsra@illianaweb.org).

 P.I.E.  NEWS:

PIE LUNCH MANAGER OPENINGS:  We are looking for help managing lunches about once a month mostly on Tuesdays. You will be fully trained, it’s worth $300 in PIE credit per year. If you are interested, please call Terri Schaaf: 708-259-0749.

Save the Date – The Spring Supper will be on Saturday, March 20, 2021 this year and due to Covid, we will deliver your dinner to you!  Look forward to a traditional Illiana dinner delivered right to your door by your own Illiana students!  More details will be coming.

SCRIP:  SCRIP payout was applied to your tuition statements in Jan.  You should see the tuition credit on your February statement.    Just a reminder that the SCRIP store is open during regular school office hours.  When ordering through the SCRIP store please fill out a form ahead of time and bring your completed form with payment to the office.  Order forms can be found online or in the rack outside of the office.  Your student can drop off your form in the office also.  Just please fill out the form ahead of time so that the denominations that are given are the ones you would like.  If you have questions about SCRIP, please contact Jill Rozendal at scrip@illianaweb.org.

P.I.E. CHARGES & CREDITS:  Only completed PIE Credits ($200.00) will be applied at this time.  Partial credits will be applied closer to the end of the school year. All P.I.E. volunteer questions or concerns should be directed to Kathy Neumeyer via email at kthln275@yahoo.com

• PANCAKE PACER: Our 11^th   Annual Pancake Pacer 5k run/walk will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at 7:30 a.m.  Following the race will be our famous pancake breakfast. All of the proceeds will benefit the Illiana Athletic Department.  You may register online.
