For the first time in its 80-year history, Illiana will form a sanctioned boys’ football team. Head of School Lance Davids and Athletic Director Darren DeBoer made the announcement during their podcast “Illiana Insights,” which was released this morning.
The first step in fielding a team is hiring a head football coach, and the search for the right candidate is underway. Once the coach is hired, we will have a better idea of the timeframe for games. The program will start with a Junior Varsity team, followed by a Varsity team a couple of years later.
The games will be played on the current soccer field, and to accommodate the additional wear and tear, an artificial turf will be installed later this spring. We wish to thank an anonymous donor who is paying to have this new field installed.
It’s important to note that organized football has already been played at Illiana. The girls’ flag football team had its first season last year and will continue in the future.
