Melanie Benes has been the school counselor for students whose last names start with A-K since 2018.  She graduated from Trinity Christian College with a BA in Psychology and continued her education at Governors State University, where she earned an MA in Marriage and Family Counseling.  After 10 years of working as a clinical therapist for the Family Counseling Agency and Chicago Christian Counseling Center, she felt called to pursue a career in school counseling.  Attending Northern Illinois University, she earned her professional school counseling certification and then worked for over 10 years at both the Delta Learning Center in Robbins, IL, and Harold L. Richards High School in Oak Lawn, IL before coming to Illiana.

Melanie and her husband, Jim, have two daughters and a son-in-law, but her favorite family member is her pug, Kane.  She attends Munster Church.
