Illiana puts on two major productions each school year. In November, we do a play in which over 100 students are involved not only on stage as actors, but also in painting, costumes, properties, sets, sounds, lights and other aspects of play production. Auditions are generally held the first week of school in August, and the performances are the first weekend in November.
In the spring, students perform a musical that involves not only acting talent but singing as well. Besides the chorus and pit orchestra, the musical usually has a large cast with opportunities for experienced and inexperienced actors and actresses. Again, the musical involves over 130-150 students in the various aspects. Tryouts are held in December and rehearsals are scheduled for eight weeks prior to the performance dates.
The basis for Drama at Illiana Christian is that of the Body of Christ. We can think of no better extra-curricular activity that demonstrates how the various parts of the body work together as a whole, and we value every person, great and small, who participates in this program.
