Physical Education Department
Physical Education is education of and through the physical. It is a planned program focussing on motor skill development, health fitness knowledge and development, sports awareness and participation, and Christian responsibilities related to the physical.
The four main goals for the Physical Education program at Illiana Christian will be:
I. Body Awareness - To further develop an understanding of our God as a created being. This includes knowledge of the body parts and functions, and an understanding of the requirements of activity and the factors that modify it
II. Health Fitness - To build a knowledge base of, and to develop and seek a commitment to lifetime maintenance of health fitness.
III. Sports/Play Awareness -To equip with the knowledge and skills of a variety of sports and recreational activities as part of a celebrative Christian lifestyle.
IV.Decisional Issues - To commit to acceptance and practice of responsible actions before God and man in fitness and sportive pursuits.
In summary, the Physical Education program is concerned with the knowledge and understanding that occurs through muscular activity, how a person can control and use physical activity to serve God, what relationships fitness and play activities have to other parts of the body, and how physical activity affects the human being.
All students must take one year of physical education as freshmen and one semester as sophomores.
