Statement of Purpose
The Constitution of Parents In Education states the purpose of the organization as being:
1. To create more interest in Illiana Christian High School and the Reformed faith for which we stand.
2. To acquaint ourselves with parents, teachers and friends of the school.
3. To aid the school financially through Market Day, the Catering Service, "An Evening For Illiana" Fundraiser, and T.R.I.P. The proceeds from these fundraisers enhance educational resources for our students.
We also serve Hot Lunch to the students on Wednesdays.
"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through Him." Colossians 3:17
May, 2010
Dear Parents:
P.I.E. (Parents Involved in Education), formerly known as the Ladies’ Auxiliary, is a very effective fund-raising organization for our school. Through the efforts of many volunteer helpers, it makes significant financial contributions to Illiana each year.
To encourage participation in a variety of fund raising efforts, each Illiana family will be assessed a “P.I.E. fee” of $200. It will appear on your first monthly tuition statement as a separate item, apart from your tuition. This fee may be waived by working in one or more of the fund-raising functions that are listed on the back of this letter. The work may be done by a responsible member of your family (parents, grandparents, Illiana student, friend or relative) during the course of the year. The P.I.E. year runs from June to May. Credit for your help will appear on the January or May tuition statements after the required hours have been fulfilled. It is our hope that everyone will make a small but important commitment to help in our fund raising efforts.
To sign up and indicate your volunteer preferences, please visit the “P.I.E. Volunteer Page” on the Illiana website. To do this, go to www.illianachristian.org. Then click on “Parents” at the top of the home page. Next, click on “P.I.E.” on the left side of the page. Finally, click on “P.I.E. volunteers” on the left side of the page. You will find announcements at the top of the page, a calendar, and a volunteer form in which to indicate in which capacity you would like to serve.
Dinners and cleaning dates will be added to the calendar as they are scheduled. By clicking on the individual event, you will be able to see how many workers are still needed for that date. It is to your advantage to continually check the calendar for dates that would work for you. If you find a date that works for you, include the date when submitting the volunteer form.
If you wish to help with Market Day, Hot Lunch or T.R.I.P., it is to your advantage to submit the form ASAP as these positions fill up first and the schedules are already being put together. For example, if you sign up for 1st semester Hot Lunch on August 26, it will most likely be too late, because that schedule is emailed to the volunteers in early August.
All volunteering will be handled through the “P.I.E. Volunteer Page” on the Illiana Christian Website, so please keep this letter as a reference for how to sign up. If you have any questions, you may email the P.I.E. Board at pieboard@illianachristian.org.
In Christ’s Service,
P.I.E. Board
Vonda Wiltjer (President) Lori Clark (2nd Vice President) Michele Hescott (Secretary)
Sue Zuidema (1st Vice President) Kerrie Friesema (Treasurer)
Illiana Dinners: Dinners are scheduled throughout the year, therefore, check the calendar on the “P.I.E. Volunteer Page” regularly to find a date(s) that work for you. You may volunteer to work as an a.m. cook, table setter, or waiter/waitress.
A.M. Cooks: come at approximately 8:30am the morning of the dinner to peel vege-
tables, make the salad, and other tasks assigned. The a.m. cooks work for about
1½ hours and required to work four times to receive their P.I.E. credit.
Table Setter: come the afternoon of the assigned dinner to set tables for the dinner.
Table setting is usually done at 1:30pm the day of the dinner. In the summer it is done
at 9:00am. Table setters are required to work four times to receive their P.I.E. credit.
Servers: arrive before the dinner is served to fill water glasses and cream pitchers,
put rolls on the tables, serve dinner, clear tables and clean up. Servers are able to
eat afterwards. Servers need to work two dinners to receive their P.I.E. credit. Couples
working together at the same dinner would fulfill the requirement for the credit.
Hot Lunch: helpers will make, serve and clean up a designated Hot Lunch for the students and faculty. This is a semester long commitment and helpers will work four-five Wednesdays. There is also a need for cooks for various hot lunches. No positions available at this time.
Market Day: helpers will unload the truck, set up tables with the products, sort the products according to each order, and make sure they are correct. Market Day is usually the second Tuesday of the month. Helpers work three times from 1:30-4:30 pm to receive their P.I.E. credit. Responsible students may also work by carrying orders to vehicles. Students work from 3:00pm until all orders are picked up and all tables are clean and taken down.
Kitchen Cleaning: Due to the heavy traffic and frequent use, the kitchen needs a thorough cleaning multiple times throughout the year. Helpers need to clean one time to receive their P.I.E. credit.
T.R.I.P.: (Tuition Reduction Incentive Program) helpers work on a team that meets on Thursday or Friday and each team will meet every three weeks. T.R.I.P. is a one year commitment. Only a limited amount of helpers are needed for the T.R.I.P. program
School Cleaning: light, general cleaning inside the school building and on the grounds is done as needed throughout the school year. Helpers need to clean one time to receive their P.I.E. credit.
